Serious snowboarding fans understand how important a snowboard wax is to having that amazing ride. In some Hollywood movies featuring snowboarders, have you ever wondered why they seem to always be rubbing their boards with something? Waxing the snowboard is a common practice and actually a necessary method to keeping the board spick and span and always ready for a ride. Different Types Of Snowboard Wax

Perhaps the most popular type of wax is the iron-on or hot wax. This is the most easily available type of wax and is commonly used by majority of snowboarders. What does a hot wax snowboard wax do? It basically involves either a portable waxing machine or a piece of coarse cloth that serves as applicator because the wax is, well, hot.
The wax is applied on the base of the board after you prep the surface with the base cleaner and then let out to dry for a few minutes. You don’t wipe the snowboard wax onto the base; instead, you drip it on and, using an iron, lay it pressed against the board. You can use a brush to scrape off the excess wax. Of course, if you’re at the field, finding a plug for the iron might be a problem, although hot wax remains the best way to take care of your board. Scraping off the excess wax can also be chore.
Another type of snowboard wax is one you can just bring with you wherever you go and rub onto the board. The key point really is this: you do the hot waxing at home or where you can find a plug and then just apply a rub-on wax in between or when you don’t have immediate access to an iron. Most rub-on waxes come in spray form so they’re very easy to apply and bring along during trips.
Paste wax is another type of wax that may be applied in place of the spray rub-on wax. It might not be as durable or long-lasting as the hot wax or the rub-on wax, but it serves its purpose well for short-time uses or if you’re working on a tight budget. The thing about paste wax, however, is that the maintenance and application is more frequent; so if time is not an issue and you like “bonding” with your board often, a paste snowboard wax is good enough.
Care For Your Snowboard
These are just some of the various types of wax available in the market today. There are manufacturers that have found a way to bring in all portability, longevity and heat together in one wax type, commonly called the universal wax, but this is priced higher than the usual. If you have the funds for it, you can opt for this type of all-in-one snowboard wax.
In the end, it all really boils down to giving your beloved snowboard the proper care it deserves for giving you hours of enjoyment and fun. A snowboard is an investment and you must take care of it so it stays like new for a long time. A good snowboard wax is your best ally when it comes to board care.
